One Reason Why #NetNeutrality Is Important

Net Neutrality is extremely important right now, because we are in a near-monopoly market in the ISP world…

Checks and balances in some form are always necessary for a capitalist market.  Otherwise, if left unchecked, the “profit motive” for companies will lead to them exploiting the market for more profit (which is their primary objective).

And then we find a near-monopoly like Comcast et. al…

Right now Net Neutrality is the only “check” for near-monopoly companies like Comcast (and it’s not a great one).  While the Government isn’t who I would pick to maintain this check, the companies will NOT do it themselves … soooo…

If left unchecked Comcast et. al would try every way possible to extract every single dollar out of their customer’s pockets that they could (beyond what they already do). No additional value would be provided, though value would be “packaged” LIKE it was being added.

These companies sell access to the Internet, and that is all it should ever be.  But the profit motive has led to these ISP’s attempting to package “usage” as the “fair” way to sell services.

And that is complete bullshit.  They sell access, and speed of access … that’s it.  One price, one access point, and that is all.

With a LOT more competition and consumer choice in the ISP market, perhaps regulations wouldn’t be as necessary as the market would regulate itself to “some” degree.

But regulations will always be necessary to some degree (whatever that is) when it comes to ubiquitous services like Internet access.  Because as we’re finding out now, companies like Comcast / Xfinity are getting set to exploit their market for dollars again.

Folks, Comcast doesn’t care … they just want to reach as deep into your wallet as you’ll let them … period.

We Need a Separation From “Fake” and a Return to the Real…

Right now we live in a world of “fake.”

Fake news, and even when it’s not fake (even though it has been shown to be a direct lie to the public) … it really has no value anyhow.

How many times do you need to hear the next version of “Trump is bad” before you realize most of it is out of your control, anyhow?  And even if you “could” control what is being reported … mainstream news is bad for you anyhow, and only represents a thin veneer of what is really happening in the world.

It’s fucking fake, all of it.  The mainstream media’s only purpose is to increase subscriptions with your money, get your “eyeballs” onto their stories, and produce endless reams of  worthless clickbait.

It’s fake, worthless garbage.  Fast food for your mind.

And “Hollywood” is fake, worthless garbage too, part of the bigger “sphere of fake” I’m alluding to.  Endless movie remakes, star actors that want your worship, and sometimes all they can offer is complete idiocy.

(And yes, I do recognize the irony in “pointing to” media in the links).

We have got to move past the “fake” parts of our culture, run past the “gossip rags” in the grocery store, and quit adding truth to the ‘Murica stereotype day in, and day out (we can’t possibly be proud of that).

We have to move towards the real … educating ourselves about politics and media.  We have to grow up, and quit berating each other over insignificant bullshit (sometimes ruining careers in stupid witch hunts).

We have to think in 3 dimensions, not just one.  We have to focus inward, and work to improve ourselves instead of falling for another “what does Kardashian look like today” garbage article.

The “fake culture” we are living in doesn’t allow us to live to our full potential as human beings … period.  Quit participating in it, full stop.

Read books, think deeper, and genuinely connect with each other beyond media.  If we don’t do this … they win.

Inserting “Magic” Into the Creation of Life

Left as a comment to this post, and reprinted here as a very short response to this garbage.

I didn’t know there was some “magic” time number (Earth age in years) that these discoveries could bump up against. At most, maybe the Earth is older? Maybe these fossils aren’t as old?

But neither scenario changes the process under which that life was created. And neither scenario requires [POOF!] a designer to be inserted into the life-creation process. Maybe the process itself was simply “fast acting” in the beginning of complex life on Earth, then has slowed over time?

These “Discoveroid” people are just aching to make up some silly little bedtime story about how life started. Why is it that some members of our species has to “insert” some irrational “thing” that “creates”? Sheesh.
